Magazines

Magazines are very interesting stuff to read. It has every kind for every kind of people, and the good thing is, there's more than one magazine that can fit a person's character. It could be about sports, business, news, fashion, food, housekeeping, culture, music, everything. It is very well made to fit a person's lifestyle. It sets deadlines for every issue to be released. Making it only for its target market which is the most important thing in all publications.

Reading a magazine is just like a little television in its glossy paper version and you can hit replay everytime you miss a thing or just feel like it, you can read it anytime. Just like one of my preffered magazines to read, "United", it's the official magazine of the Manchester United Football Club, its where i can read articles about whats currently happening, player profiles, staff, posters, pictures, snapshots of matches or events and highlights, it has advertisements, contests and promos, etc. It is only behind to televion/radio in the field of audio, that's the only downside i can think of, but imagine a sports magazine with audio, that would be nice. I can't even come up with the word to describe it. Imagine hearing crowd cheers while just reading a match report in a sports magazine. =) I wouldn't think that it's impossible.

I understand that in the business of making or publishing a magazine, it takes a lot of hard work and time to finish it properly, working under pressure on a very tight schedule on a seemingly very short deadline, but having an experience of making a magazine, even just a simple one, for our class project in our CA subject, i learned that that pressure and hard work can be divided which makes more comfortable and relaxed(not quite), comfort as a requirement to do work properly. Being involved in the online department, I learned that even though we are in a very different platform with the magazine itself, we still have to go with the flow with the pace of the magazine is going, we cannot be ahead and we cannot be too far behind.

Broadcast

Broadcasting started in the early era of the development of printing which led to the introduction of newspaper which is invented to broadcast, simply to inform. Now, it developed in many different ways, it can be done on air, the radio, television, and also in the internet today. Done for the purpose to inform.

Broadcasting is very important to all, no questions asked, if nobody in the channels of media to inform the people, it is very difficult to know whats the current events, what's happening to your favorite country, how could you ever know the state of business here in the Phils. or how could you even know when your favorite t.v. show will be aired. It surely has a big effect to us since the early beginnings of broadcasting. It changed how we live, how we develop or retain our culture and traditions, economic state of countries, everything, even how we think. It can show us different perspectives of the world and could convince us to think differently than we initially thought.

Personally, i never realised that i relied mostly on broadcasts to know the schedule of important football matches, especially my favourite team, to know the current status of football players, etc., it's not that i didn't know the definition of broadcast, it's that i haven't really thought about it, i just know it's there without any care to what i would do without it or the importance of it. Well now, i'm thanking television and the power of broadcast and also everyone involved that i am privelaged to be able to watch my favourite sport whenever i want to.

Sadly according to the a law of physics which i could not remember what particular law, all i know that it's important, that's why it is even made a law, anymays, it goes like 'for every action, there's always an equal but opposite reaction..'. To connect it to my point, with all these positive effects in broadcasting, there is also negative effects caused, also as great as the positive caused. Although this is, i think, irreversable, we still can survive with these negative effects caused but with, obviously, regrets.

Fourth Information Revolution

It's a human nature to find entertainment whenever bored, nobody like to get bored or stay that way. Cavemen killed their boredom, other than eating and sleeping, they entertained themselves with cave drawings, early humans built civilizations and empires to change their once dull uncivilized lifestyle, barbarians invaded cities to satisfy their craving for entertainment, early innovators invented just to make them happy and proud, then the development of media as a primary entertainment source also known as the 4th information revolution.

I have always been fond of movies and certain types of music and the television. Especially when i wonder about the time during ways of recording music into little strips of 'film' (I'm not really sure what they call it) and pictures used for motion picture. Up to now, i still don't get how they came up with the idea of it being possible to put music in that little instrument without musical instruments.

In the early stages of the radio, it was a breakthrough to have some people invented something like this that would eventually develop into the first most influential medium for media to reach its audience rather than just reading a newspaper, but this source of information and entertainment came with a price. Then the innovations for the ever humble camera, to an instrument for a film maker equivalent for a painter to a paintbrush (almost typed in toothbrush, *phew*). Having television and movies nearly have similar characteristics but still totally different in so many ways and platforms. Early film makers expressed their thoughts through their simple films then thankfully through the years they have improved and grown a lot, the film makers and the movies themselves.

This era of discoveries in this particular field of entertainment using media is for me the most crucial part of the developement of or source of entertainment today in the modern age. If it weren't for the ideas of some, risks they took just to try their idea to do something new, has led to become part of our life's necessities today, entertainment in the form of music, radio, television, theatre, and cinema.

'War of the Worlds'

The broadcast of the dramatization of HG Well's 'War of the Worlds' during the late 1930's, 1938 to be exact, is somewhat interesting in its own way. The dramatization itself is brought out to the audience like a live broadcast which never prepared the listeners for the tragic story.

I listened to it with an open mind and tried to set my thinking as like of those people in that time. As a 'kid', it obviously bored me, but that was only my initial reaction for i am very very tired at the moment i listened to the audio file, anyways, it started out as boring for me then it came to the part when they played a piece by some orchestra which made my eyelids drop but then came the part when its making me curious for interrupting broadcasts buildng up the suspense, then as minutes past by, the radio broadcast was getting more exciting, well, not that exciting. It really sounded like it was really happening.

However, during the part where a captain in the area claiming that the situation is under control then suddenly the aliens came out then the action began, and the contact from the place of the aliens were suddenly cut of then continued by the broadcastser in the radio station then stating events of the next actions of the aliens, that made me wonder how can he know that instantly where the events during the attack from the farm was cut off only up to that part. But still, it will just make me question but it won't entirely change my thoughts about the radio broadcast.

Viewing it with a particular point of view, specifically of a person from that period, i would definitely believe the broadcast as real news only up to the part when they say that it was ony a dramatization, for the reasons that radio was very infuential at that period, and the way of presenting the dramatization. Also the reactions of some already panicking, careless of what they are doing that unconciously building a tense atmosphere which could influence many to panic as helpless citizens as well, as reaction to the tragic broadcast.

Nike and Adidas' football advertisements has always been very entertaining to watch, fans, footballers and even people who normally doesn't care about football enjoy watching these short endorsements. Advertisers have also influenced new supporters of the sport simply through inspiring short films with players playing beautiful plays only wearing outfits branded with their names.

Football clubs, national teams and their players has always been influential to most of the people, in some way. Advertisers doesn't even have to post expensive ads on billboards, tv commercials, etc. to sell their product, for example the case of Adidas' newly discovered ball technology called the 'TeamGeist', it was introduced to the football world during the 2006 FIFA World Cup held last August, they only have to provide Adidas sponsored teams footballs for their training sessions and take a picture of the ball with the team using it, that's it, simply as that and football fans around the world want a ball just like that.

Sadly for me, football is still not that popular enough here in the Philippines to attract investors to sell their high quality products here though there are many filipino football fans. I can hardly watch football advertisements showing great football on philippine tv And just like what happened to the screening of the movie 'Goal!2', i heard that they wont show it here because its prequel didn't earn that much. I just hope that advertising isn't always about the money, it should be about reaching the people, showing appropriate content, not creating bad publicity to earn big or whatever.
